USAA lowers auto insurance rates for nearly 500,000 Floridians
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky has approved several personal auto insurance rate decreases for the USAA Group, with the programs averaging a 7% reduction and affecting more than 498,000 policies.
According to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, some USAA policyholders will receive rate decreases greater than the 7% average. Policyholder rate changes are expected to range from a 0.4% decrease to an 11.2% decrease.
USAA's largest concentrations of business in Florida are in Brevard, Escambia and Okaloosa counties, where average rate changes are expected to be -5.8%, -8% and -8.4%, respectively.
"The Office of Insurance Regulation is constantly reaching out to insurers to inquire about rate relief, and USAA is always stepping up to the plate and looking out for their consumers," Yaworsky said. "This latest rate action will help the pockets of more than 498,000 Floridians and some policyholders may see up to 11.2% rate decreases."
Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia said the rate reductions are another indication of improvements in the state's insurance market and noted that military families are among those expected to benefit.
The latest filing follows previous actions by USAA to reduce costs for Florida members. From December 2025 through July 2026, USAA provided nearly $1 billion in rate reductions and direct member returns to Florida policyholders, including a $500 million dividend distributed to approximately 830,000 members.
State officials said Florida's auto insurance market continues to show growth and stability. According to the Office of Insurance Regulation, the five largest auto insurance groups reported a combined indicated rate change of -12.6% in 2026, affecting approximately 81% of Florida's auto insurance market.
The state also reported a personal auto liability loss ratio of 52.5% in 2025, which officials said was Florida's lowest level in the past 15 years.
